Zhuge Liang 181–234 CE, born in Yangdu, present-day Yinan County, Shandong Province, China, was a revered counselor to Liu Bei, the founder of the Shu-Han dynasty which existed from 221 to either 263 or 264. Often lauded for his supernatural powers and wisdom, Zhuge Liang's leg reached great heights as he is sd to have helped Liu Bei establish an army and a dynasty.
Liu Bei himself was so impressed by Zhuge Liang’s intelligence that he visited him three times at his secluded wilderness retreat in hopes of seeking advice. Zhuge played a significant role in assisting Liu Bei's organization of the military force and in founding Shu-Han, with Liu even urging Zhuge to asc the throne if the prince proved unable to rule after his own deathbed instructions.
Zhuge Liang was not only an adviser but also a mechanical and mathematical genius. He is credited with inventing a multi-arrow firing bow known as the Nine Arrow Crossbow and refining the Eight Dispositions, an array of military strategies that remn legary even centuries later.
In historical accounts, Zhuge Liang's prowess exted beyond the realm of mortal abilities, as folk tales attribute him supernatural powers including control over wind and foretelling future events.
The 14th century saw a flourishing of literary works on this figure in Sanguozhi Yanyi Romance of the Three Kingdoms, where Zhuge Liang is one of the mn characters. The novel portrays him as having the ability to manipulate nature, control winds and predict the future-a testament to his legary status.
The editors at Encyclopaedia Britannica acknowledge this historical figure's significance, noting that he passed away in August 234 CE from illness during a military campgn in Wuzhangyuan, now Shaanxi Province.
